51. Balbasaur Festival The legend that Balbasaurs would have a festival and transform into Ivysaur in the miracle garden some time in a year--However, Satoshi's Balbasaur is hesitate to join it. His instinct lured by the same species' calls, he goes to the garden a night. Halfway on his way, though, he halts. Pikachu follows him, then listens to him, understanding he hates to evolve. At that time a herd of Balbasaur pass near them, and take him forcibly. To save his friend, Pikachu is ready to shoot a electric beam as Balbasaur tells him not to. Pikachu quickly makes a decision, and turns to go and take Satoshi and other kids. They finally arrive at the Balbasaur garden, and see dozens of Balbasaurs evolving in dancing pollen, as Satoshi's one tries not to do. Venusaur, watching the ceremony, blames him, along with new Ivysaurs for his refusing to evolve. Hard to bear seeing him blamed, Satoshi and his friends go to face Venusaur, telling him that his friend can go on his way. The Rocket gang intrudes then, trying to capture Ivysaurs and Venusaur. Satoshi's Balbasaur fights hard, taking them back. Saurs open their minds finally, and understand what Balbasaur wants to do.
52. A Battle in the Festival Martch 3 is the day of Girls' Festival in Japan, as Ohina town has a big festival. The main event is a Pokemon tournament battle, whose winner is awarded a set of dolls displayed at the festival. Kasumi has three older sisters, each owning her own set, while she has been given ones handed down from them, and dying to have it. Pikachu volunteers to help her by fighting for her in the tournament. And Musashi also aims at the dolls, since she was not afford to have them in her childhood. They fight hard, and Kasumi wins them.
53. Children's day May 5 is the day of Children's day in Japan. Although a kindergarden is to have a Pokemon trainer to visit them, he cannot come. Satoshi and his friends decide to help them for him. A boy likes Meowth, since he was saved by him at a crisis. The Rocket gang plans to make use the story and capture Pikachu--though in vain as usual.
54. Police Dogs Satoshi and his friends find a thief in a forest, on the way to the Gren island. Satoshi commands Pikachu to capture him, while Pikachu shrinked to have seen a gun in the thief's hand. As they learn that it is a police training for Flames, dog monsters, that are treated as police dogs, Satoshi hopes that Pikachu will be so good as them and asks a female officer to train Pikachu. Takeshi tell him that Pikachu doesn't need to be trained, because he is perfect now, but Satoshi insists on his hope. Trainig is hard, exhausting both Satoshi and Pikachu. The Rocket gang intrudes the police station then, and uses strange gases which perplexes their senses of smell and changes their voices. Flames are confused, and trapped by the gang to attack the officer. However, Pikachu is not tricked, making Satoshi recognize how much Pikachu trusts him, and their friendship is perfect. They defeat the gang with Flames' help, and leaves the station.
55. Snap shot! Satoshi and his friend enjoy over rice balls Takeshi made in a forest. Satoshi senses that someone is watching them, and it is Toru, a cameraman. He wants to take pictures of Pikachu in a natural style, and asks Pikachu to be the model.

At Toru's house, pancakes are served. Pikachu is pleased, then finds Toru's camera aiming at him. Toru asks him to smile, while Pikachu is not used to be snapped, giving an unnatural smile. Toru releases the shutter, the flash astonishing Pikachu, and Pikachu shoots an electric beam at him. Also outside, he aims at Pikachu with his camera, but Pikachu hides behind Satoshi as he is snapped. Toru is annoyed, not knowing what do do. He, in fact, has been asked to take Pikachu's pictures by an old couple who takes Meowth with them. They are the Rocket gang, whose characters are exposed when Satoshi's party falls into a pitfall they made, and Satoshi and Pikachu, moreover, into a water vein under the ground. The gang misunderstood that Toru is talented Pokemon hunter, and ploted to let him capture Pikachu. Their gummy net catch Pikachu while Satoshi is unable to move at the mouse of the vein, helped and kept by Toru from being thrown. He manages to crawl out water, and takes Pikachu back. Then they have a photo taken to commemorate their encounter.

56. Examined Trainer Passing the examination for a official Pokemon trainer certificates you to join the Pokemon league without collecting budges from gym trainers, which are neccessary for it. Satoshi decides to take the exam, which consists of a written and practical tests. Musashi and Kojiro are also in the hall, though he and his friends don't notice them. Both Satoshi and the couple are in trouble with the first part of the former test. (Though I thought it was easy. Let me say to Satoshi study harder) The second part, a a silhouette quize, quite difficult; for example, a ball silhouette is shown, and the answer is Jigglypuff seen from the top. Musashi flares up, complaines, and is ordered out.

Satoshi and Kojiro are enthusiastic about the practical test. In the test, examees are to join with Pokemons of examiners, not with their owns. Kojiro is first. He is delighted as he finds Pikachu by his side. But his examiner sends a Pokemon who is proof against electric attacks. Kojiro sends two monsters out, against the rule, and is orderd out as Musashi was.

Satoshi's monsters are La, Arboc, and Meowth; they are all species owned by the Rocket gang. During his test, the gang intrudes, disgusted by the exam. Satoshi successfully defeats them with the examiner's help. Then he understands he should collect all budges to join the league, which suits him.

57. Pokemon fostering Satoshi and his friends find a store in which they foster Pokemon instead of trainers. Kasumi trusts Psyduck to them, in hope of seeing him better. But it was a trap the Rocket gang made--not Musashi Kojiro, Meowth. The boss is vexed at them as they usually fail in different plans to capture Pokemon, and trusts the new strategy to other members, Yamato and Kosaburo. Kids find that and try to take Psyduck back, but Satoshi, Takeshi, Tohru (accompanied by Satoshi's party since the episode #55), and the couple and Meowth of the gang (who was going to steal Pokemon there, not knowing their real characters) are captured and sent to the police. Pikachu and Kasumi successfully prove their friends' innocence, and let the police arrest Yamato and Kosaburo.
And then Tohru parts since he has to leave on a trip for Pokemon photographes.
58. Heat Battle in Gren Gym Only a couple of budges Satoshi has to gain to join the Pokemon league, and one is available at Gren gym in Gren island. However, the island has been turned to be a resort as hot springs were tapped, and Katsura, a gym leader, was disappointed and disapeared, they learned from a man who likes to ask riddles. Disappointed, Satoshi and his friends decide to enjoy over hot springs and tasted dishes as tourists, but any hotels they checked with are full. Satoshi's rival Shigeru is in a hotel. He is a mean boy, and suggests that he offer a stay with him to Satoshi if one from Satoshi's party turn three times and say 'Pikachu.' Knowing how hungry Satoshi is, Pikachu tries that, but Satoshi stops him halfway.
At that time a Fusuma of the room opens, and Purin enters in, with a mike in her hand. Astonished, Satoshi and his friends dash away to escape her song; it would make all people who hear it sleep. After they leave, Purin sings, and find after a while that Shigeru and other people in the room fell asleep. She flares up, put a cap away from the mike; it is a Magic Marker. She scribbles on sleeping people's faces.
Then they recall a riddle man, and that he has a pension. The riddle man gives them a stay, and confesses that he knows that the gym is somewhere in the island in fact. Satoshi waits for the man to give him the location, delighted. The man just asks, 'what is that, a flood upper and a large fire lower?'
By accident, they solve the riddle, finding the gym under the ground of the pension. Then they find the riddle man the gym trainer. Satoshi challenges him, sending Squirtle, Lizardon and Pikachu, and proving he is much of trainer. Katsura sends Magmer, and he shoots a huge magma beam. What Pikachu would do...?
To be continued...
59. Dicisive Battle Pikachu manages to dodge the beam Magmer shot, but got slightly burned on the back. Finally Satoshi gave up the battle, to save Pikachu. (Let me say he should've recognized that earlier!) While Satoshi bathes Pikachu, the Rocket gang steals into the gym, armed with ice-rocket launchers; They are going to get Magmer. However, they don't work on him, and the gang fires recklessly. Some of the rocket bombs hit the rocky wall. If, you know, a heated rock gets freezed quickly, it will crack. When Katsura and Satoshi's party arrive, some part of the wall smashes, and magma gushes out of one crack. Katsura commands Magmer to cover it with rocks. Satoshi also asks Lizardon to help Magmer, he ignores Satoshi, as in fact, Satoshi doesn't reach the level which allows him to have Lizardon. But seeing Magmer work hard, Lizardon decides to join him. Satoshi's party send some other Pokemon, including Pikachu, and they work together. As they succeed, Katsura thanks Satoshi, giving him another chance to battle with him. And, Lizardon wants to fight. Lizardon and Magmer fight to the utmost of their abilities; It is a nice game, and Lizardon wins, bringing Katsura's budge to Satoshi.
